Jacquelyn McMiller wants to give the working class a voice.
That’s why the 55-year-old Fort Myers resident said she is running for mayor. If elected, McMiller would be the first black woman to lead the city.
McMiller was born in Midway about 60 miles northwest of Tallahassee. But her family moved to Fort Myers 50 years ago.
The seat will be vacated by Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson because he is running for Florida’s congressional District 19 seat. Henderson was supposed to serve two more years in his current role.
So far, McMiller will face city council members Gaile Anthony, of Ward 6, and Kevin Anderson, who represents Ward 4, in the race for mayor.
